“You’re giving me the ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ routine? I invented ‘it’s not you, it’s me.’ Nobody tells me it’s them not me; if it’s anybody, it’s me.”

Falling for Tech: How to Keep Your Devices Cozy This Season

As the leaves turn golden and Saskatoon trades iced coffees for pumpkin spice lattes, it’s also the perfect time to give your tech setup a little seasonal TLC. Just like you swap out sandals for sweaters, your technology could use some fall maintenance to keep things running smoothly before the holiday rush.

1. Clean Up That Digital Clutter

Before you start streaming Christmas playlists (no judgment if you already are), take a few minutes to tidy up your desktop and cloud storage.

  • Archive or delete old files you don’t need.
  • Back up the important ones to the cloud.
  • Empty that downloads folder that’s basically a digital junk drawer.

Your computer, and your sanity, will thank you.

2. Keep Things Running Warm (Not Too Warm)

Fall weather can trick you into thinking your devices don’t need ventilation, but dust bunnies love cozy corners.

  • Gently clean vents and fans on laptops and PCs.
  • Keep devices off blankets or soft surfaces that block airflow.
  • Bonus: Your laptop will stop sounding like it’s about to take off from the tarmac.

3. Check Your Security Settings

With more time spent indoors comes more time online. It’s the perfect chance to review:

  • Passwords (strong, unique ones, please!)
  • MFA settings (yes, turn it on)
  • Software updates (don’t snooze those pop-ups)

A quick tune-up now can save you from a cybersecurity scare later.

4. Get Cozy But Stay Connected

Fall is all about connection, and at Rivercity Tech, we make sure your systems, Wi-Fi, and networks stay strong no matter how many smart plugs or streaming marathons you add to the mix.

If your office tech could use a refresh or if you just want someone else to untangle the cables reach out. We’ll bring the tech support; you bring the coffee.
