“You’re giving me the ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ routine? I invented ‘it’s not you, it’s me.’ Nobody tells me it’s them not me; if it’s anybody, it’s me.”

Spring Clean Your IT: A Fresh Start for Your Business Technology

Spring is finally here and just like your office plants, your IT systems might need a little freshening up too.

After months of winter workloads, patch-after-patch updates, and the occasional “why is this so slow?” moment, spring is the perfect time to hit reset and give your technology a much-needed tune-up. Think of it as spring cleaning… but for your business infrastructure.

First up: declutter your digital space. Old files, unused applications, and forgotten user accounts can quietly pile up and slow things down. Not only does this impact performance, but it can also create security risks. If no one’s used that account since last spring, it probably doesn’t need access anymore.

Next, let’s talk updates. We get it those “restart required” notifications always seem to pop up at the worst time. But keeping your systems updated is one of the easiest ways to protect your business from vulnerabilities. Spring is a great checkpoint to ensure everything from operating systems to antivirus software is current and running smoothly.

Now’s also a good time to review your backups. If something went wrong today, would you be able to recover quickly? Or would it turn into a full-blown panic moment? Testing your backups (yes, actually testing them) ensures your data is safe and your recovery plan works when you need it most.

And while you're at it, take a look at your cybersecurity habits. Phishing scams and cyber threats don’t take a seasonal break. A quick team refresher on spotting suspicious emails can go a long way especially as inboxes start filling up with “spring sale” and “limited-time offer” messages.

Finally, don’t forget your hardware. Dust buildup, aging devices, and overworked machines can quietly impact performance. A quick check-in can help you spot issues before they turn into downtime.

Spring is all about fresh starts and your IT should be no exception. A little proactive cleanup now can save you time, stress, and unexpected costs down the road.

If you’d rather not tackle it alone, that’s kind of our thing. 🌱
