Too many open tabs? Microsoft Edge has the solution!

I am probably the number one culprit in our company for having too many open tabs across two different browser sessions - I just really can't let go sometimes, haha. In this week's The Yada Yada, I discuss Edges' new workspace feature that is coming soon!

We all like to work in different ways, and we all have different habits while on our computers. Some people like to keep their screens minimal, while others prefer to have everything open and visible.

What we can all agree on is that having 20 browser tabs open at any one time has a negative effect on work productivity (I know, I know....). This is because it takes a lot more time and effort to look through the 20 open browser tabs and find the web pages you need to work on.

But thankfully this may not be a problem for much longer!

Microsoft's web browser, Edge, has a new product that will be making its debut soon, so if you're a fan of Edge then this can really help you. Back in April 2021 'Workspaces' was revealed. But since then, Microsoft hasn't mentioned anything else about it, we assumed it was dead in the water.

But a preview build of Edge that’s just come out for developers includes an option to create new Workspaces. So, it looks like we could all be seeing the feature rolled out in the months ahead! Workspaces let you group together browser tabs and open or close groups with a click.

There are many ways that this feature will be useful. Keeping work-related and personal information separate or group together different projects you may be working on. The groups and information can be colour-coded to make it easier to identify the information that you are looking for.

When you close and reopen Edge all your tabs will be there waiting for you, unless you delete them. I am really looking forward to this feature for our staff in particular, as being able to group our different web applications we use for supporting customers and setting them to launch each time the browser loads up will be a big time saver!

Although there is no release date for this yet, if you can’t wait to get all those open browser tabs more organized there is more good news – Google’s Chrome browser already offers a similar feature called tab groups.

A simple right-click lets you group together tabs, label them and colour code them too. You can even reorder them on your tab strip to organize them further.
