“You’re giving me the ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ routine? I invented ‘it’s not you, it’s me.’ Nobody tells me it’s them not me; if it’s anybody, it’s me.”

Passkeys Are About to Roll Out and It Will Increase the Security of Our Businesses Online!

News of Passwords being taken over by Passkey broke out in May. Apple is pushing Passkey hard through their marketing, and although Apple is going hard on the marketing it's not only Apple that will be rolling out Passkeys.

Microsoft and Google are also trying to boost online security by featuring Passkeys within their devices. Apple is planning on launching the Passkey within the next few months in iOS 16. This is exciting news for us Tech geeks! Microsoft, Google and Apple are all keen to spread the word that by using the Passkey feature the safer our businesses will be online.

Passkeys – otherwise known as FIDO authentication – work by letting you log into an app or website with just your username and your pre-authenticated device, most probably your phone. Your device generates a cryptographic token, which makes the second part of a cryptographic key pair. When the pair matches, you’re allowed access to the app or website. What that means in practice is when you’re logging in, you just use your phone to prove it's really you. You’ll just unlock it using what you usually use, your face, fingerprint, or PIN.

If your phone is within the Bluetooth range of your computer, you will be good to go! No more having to remember many difficult passwords!! What could be better?!

The Passkey method is a much more secure way to keep all your accounts and apps safer from cybercriminals. It takes away the opportunities for cybercriminals to steal your login credentials. Cybercriminals will be unable to use their normal tactics to steal your credentials, such as phishing emails, brute force or key loggers. You will need your physical device within Bluetooth range from your computer in order to log in, and this makes remote hacking by cyber criminals much less likely. It won't be too long before all three tech giants, Microsoft, Google and Apple, fully launch Passkey across their whole product range.

But until they roll it out, if you would like any help keeping your apps and accounts safe, give us a call!

Until next time, keep fit and have fun!

(TYYV) The Yada Yada Version:

Passwords will soon be a thing of the past with the three big tech giants about to roll out Passkey and yada yada yada passkey will reduce the risk of being remotely hacked by cybercriminals!
