“You’re giving me the ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ routine? I invented ‘it’s not you, it’s me.’ Nobody tells me it’s them not me; if it’s anybody, it’s me.”

Email Overload

Too many emails.
Too many notifications.
Too many things marked “important” that… aren’t.

You open it with good intentions, reply to a few, clear some out, and somehow 20 minutes later, you’ve made no real progress.

That’s email overload.

And it’s not just annoying, it slows your entire day down.

Missed messages.
Delayed replies.
Constant distractions.

So instead of pretending it’ll fix itself (it won’t), here are a few simple ways to take control.

1. Unsubscribe from the noise

If you don’t read it, don’t keep it. Newsletters, promos, updates they add up fast. One quick unsubscribe now saves you hundreds of emails later.

2. Stop being CC’d on everything

Not every email needs to include everyone. Tightening this up reduces clutter instantly and helps your team focus on what actually matters.

3. Use folders or labels (and actually use them)

Create a simple system, clients, internal, finance, etc., so your inbox isn’t one giant pile of “figure it out later.”

4. Turn off unnecessary notifications

If every tool you use is emailing you constantly, your inbox will never calm down. Be selective about what actually needs to hit your inbox.

5. Set specific times to check email

Constantly refreshing your inbox kills productivity. Check it at set times during the day and focus on real work in between.

The bottom line

Email isn’t going anywhere, but the chaos doesn’t have to stay.

A few small changes can turn your inbox from overwhelming to manageable (and give you a lot of time back in your day).

At Rivercity Tech, we help businesses simplify the everyday tools that quietly slow teams down.

Because your inbox should work for you, not the other way around.

Until next time, keep fit and have fun!

(TYYV) The Yada Yada Version:

Cut the noise, organize your inbox, set better habits and yada yada yada your email will stop running your day and start supporting it.
