Build a Backyard Movie Night: Tech You’ll Need for an Epic Summer Screening

When Mitch and his family went on a camping trip recently, he didn’t just pack the marshmallows; he packed a portable projector. Yep, they set up an outdoor movie right at the campsite, under the stars. The kids were thrilled, the adults were impressed, and even Remy snuggled in to watch.

Want to recreate the magic? Here’s what you’ll need to build your own outdoor theatre and host a summer screening that’s anything but average.

1. Portable Projector

This is your big-ticket item. Look for a portable projector with good brightness (lumens matter!), HD resolution, and easy connectivity via Bluetooth (for audio) and HDMI. Bonus points for built-in speakers and battery power.

2. Projector Screen (or Trusty Sheet)

You can totally DIY it with a smooth white sheet, but if you want crisp visuals, an outdoor projector screen is worth it. Go for a foldable or inflatable version that can handle a bit of wind.

3. Bluetooth Speaker

Even the best projectors can be weak on sound. A weather-resistant Bluetooth speaker will bring the boom, whether you’re watching a superhero showdown or a cartoon classic.

4. Streaming Setup

You’ll need a way to play your movie, whether it's a laptop, streaming stick (like Roku or Fire Stick), or your phone. Just make sure your Wi-Fi reaches the backyard or download your movie in advance if you are in a no-Wi-Fi area like a campsite.

5. Comfy Seating & Snacks

Pile on the blankets, bean bags, or lawn chairs. Add fairy lights, bug spray, and a big bowl of popcorn (or s’mores supplies!) to complete the scene.

That’s a Wrap!

Whether you’re camping like Mitch or chilling in your own backyard, a little tech goes a long way toward creating a movie night to remember. At Rivercity Tech, we love gear that brings people together, and bonus points if it involves snacks.

Until next time, keep fit and have fun!
