“You’re giving me the ‘it’s not you, it’s me’ routine? I invented ‘it’s not you, it’s me.’ Nobody tells me it’s them not me; if it’s anybody, it’s me.”

Work From Home: Is It Right for Your Business?

Working from home can be a great way to save on commuting costs and increase productivity. It’s also a popular option for people who are looking to reduce stress levels or take care of personal business without having to leave the house.

It’s the big thing in business, isn’t it? And lots of people love it. They’re happier working where they want, and when they want. And that makes them more productive and less likely to leave.

Have you considered the downside to working remotely? The negative consequences for your business and your employees may be significant.

Some employees find working from home using video calls and collaborative software to be isolating. And when that happens, it can quickly lead to a drop in motivation and happiness. It can even change the culture within your business. In turn, this can lead to performance issues which may be trickier to spot. Some employees become more susceptible to burnout as they struggle to draw a line between work and personal time. Some people find a change in environment to be so important that it can help them improve their lives.

While you want your team to be happy and fulfilled in their roles, there are also some practical considerations you need to take into account for your business.

Some people find that working remotely is more cost-effective, as they can use their laptops and phones to access the office content. However, not everyone has the right tools for remote work – some people need to have office equipment with them in order to be productive. If they are using their own devices, how secure is your company's data truly? It is crucial to deploy company-approved devices and equipment to work from home employees to ensure they follow the same security standards and policies in your organization.

If they still come into the office every now and then, are you now spending twice? Giving them an at-home setup and investing in hot desks in the office?

Would you like us to audit your current setup and suggest some options? This is what we do every day. Just get in touch.

Until next time, keep fit and have fun!

Work from home may not be for everyone. Yada Yada Yada, double check employees' happiness, your employer costs and not doubling up on space costs! How secure is their at-home setup?
