There’s something magical about hitting the right combo of keys and watching your screen obey like you’re a digital wizard. At Rivercity Tech, we live for these little tech moments, those tiny shortcuts that make you feel like you’ve unlocked cheat codes for the real world.
Here are some of our all-time favorites, tested and approved by the Rivercity team (and Remy the office dog, who likes to nap while we zip through tasks).
💻 The Classic Ctrl + Z (aka "Oops Insurance")
Let’s start with the GOAT. Whether you accidentally deleted an entire paragraph or renamed your folder “asdfkjl”, Ctrl + Z (or Command + Z for Mac friends) has your back. It's the closest thing to time travel we have.
Bonus: In Photoshop, it’s even more powerful. Hit it a few times and watch your mistake disappear like it never happened. Poof.
🔍 Ctrl + F: Find Anything, Fast
This is the “Where’s Waldo” of your keyboard. Looking for that one sentence in a 20-page doc? Ctrl + F will sniff it out faster than you can say “version 12-final-FINAL.docx”.
Pro tip: Works on almost every website too. Try it on a long FAQ page next time you’re searching for a shipping policy.
🌐 Alt + Tab (Windows) / Command + Tab (Mac): Window Hopping Mastery
We call this the “Alt-ernate universe” move. Jumping between your email, browser, and chat window at the speed of thought? Yes, please.
Great for those moments when your boss is walking by and you need to tab away from that cat video. Not that we’d ever do that.
🔒 Windows + L / Control + Command + Q: Instant Lockdown
Need to step away and don’t want your curious toddler (or coworker) to accidentally message your client with emojis? This shortcut locks your computer instantly. Super spy vibes, minus the trench coat.
🧹 Ctrl + Shift + T: Reopen That Tab You Didn’t Mean to Close
We’ve all done it, accidentally closed the tab with that perfect meme or (more importantly) the draft invoice. This shortcut brings it right back, like a loyal boomerang.
Little shortcuts = big wins. Whether you’re slaying your to-do list or just trying to save your wrists from extra keystrokes, these tricks turn everyday tech into something a little more magical.
